Gracestone Advisory Launches to Strengthen Institutional Investment and Capital Decision-Making from South Africa
Gracestone Advisory has launched in South Africa as an independent investment and capital advisory firm focused on organisations responsible for significant capital, investment and governance decisions. Founded by institutional investment executive Grace Chauke, the Pretoria-based firm will advise businesses, asset owners, investment platforms, funds, boards, trustees, investment committees and other institutional decision-makers across the capital and investment value chain.
The firm enters the market with six interconnected advisory capabilities: institutional readiness advisory; capital strategy and investor advisory; investment governance and board advisory; strategic and institutional diagnostics; alternative investments advisory; and outsourced CIO and institutional investment-office support.
Gracestone’s proposition is built around a principle that is increasingly relevant to organisations seeking sophisticated capital: access should follow institutional readiness. Rather than beginning with investor introductions or a transaction, the firm assesses the quality of the underlying proposition, the governance environment, the suitability of the capital structure and the institutional capability required to support long-term stewardship.
Chauke brings more than 20 years of experience across institutional investment management, retirement funds, development finance and financial services. She most recently served as Chief Investment Officer of the Transport Sector Retirement Fund until 31 July 2026, where she established and led the internal Investment Unit and held executive responsibility for the strategy, governance and performance oversight of an institutional portfolio of approximately R11–13 billion.
“Gracestone has been established around the responsibility that comes with consequential capital decisions,” Chauke said. “The objective is not to make every opportunity transact. It is to apply independent judgement to whether the institution, governance, investment case and capital strategy are strong enough to support the decision being contemplated.”
While headquartered in Pretoria, Gracestone is positioning its advisory model for organisations operating across African and international capital environments. The firm’s focus on institutional standards is intended to make its work relevant both to African organisations preparing for sophisticated domestic or cross-border capital and to international investors, boards and institutions requiring experienced local judgement when assessing opportunities connected to the continent.
Gracestone describes its philosophy as “Considered Capital”: an approach that treats the structure, allocation, governance and preservation of capital as central to institutional resilience and enduring value. The firm says assignments will be structured around decisions and outcomes, with direct access to senior investment judgement.
Gracestone Advisory is based at Brookfield Office Park in Nieuw Muckleneuk, Pretoria, South Africa.
